1991Apple introduces System 7 operating system May 13, 1991.
1995Apple allows other computer companies to clone its computer by announcing its licensed the Macintosh operating system rights to Radius on January 4.
1997Apple introduces macOS 8.
1997Apple buys NeXT Software Inc. for $400 million and acquires Steve Jobs, Apples cofounder, as a consultant.
1999Apple introduces macOS 9.
1999Apple releases macOS X Server 1.0 on March 16, 1999.
2001Apple introduces macOS X 10.0 code named Cheetah and becomes available March 24, 2001.
2001Apple introduces macOS X 10.1 code named Puma and becomes available on September 25, 2001.
2002Apple introduces macOS X 10.2 code named Jaguar and becomes available on August 23, 2002.
2003Apple introduces macOS X 10.3 code named Panther October 25, 2003.
2004Apple introduces macOS X 10.4 code named Tiger at the WWDC on June 28, 2004.
2007Apple introduces macOS X 10.5 code named Leopard October 26, 2007.
2008Apple introduces MobileMe at the WWDC on June 9, 2008.
2009Apple introduces macOS X 10.6 code named Snow Leopard at the WWDC on June 8, 2009.
2010Apple introduces macOS X 10.7 code named Lion at the "Back to the Mac" event on October 20, 2010.
2012Apple releases macOS X 10.8 code named Mountain Lion on July 25, 2012.
2013Apple introduces macOS X 10.9 code named Mavericks at the WWDC on June 10, 2013.
2014Apple introduces macOS X 10.10 code named Yosemite at the WWDC on June 2, 2014.
